  1. How old should my cat be to have spay or neuter surgery?
    We can spay or neuter cats as young as 8 weeks of age or weigh a minimum of 2 lbs. This procedure is endorsed by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Cats can have litters as early as 5 months of age. Medical professionals who perform early age spay-neuter typically observe a faster recovery. 

  2. How much is surgery?
    A male cat neuter is $40, a female cat spay is $60. The price is a package price that includes FREE pain relief, FREE office visit, FREE medical exam and even a FREE Toe Nail Clip.

  3. Where are the surgeries performed?
    Animals are presented for surgery promptly at 7:30 a.m. the morning of surgery at the specified location for that date (see schedule). Surgeries are performed in a 30 foot customized vehicle that has been specially designed to perform quality feline surgeries using all modern equipment.

  4. Who performs the surgery?
    Dr Amy Orlin is a co-founder and medical director of Project CatSnip. Dr. Orlin has 14 years experience in small animal practice and most recently worked as veterinarian at DeKalb Humane Society prior to launching Project CatSnip. Dr. Orlin has performed well over 25,000 successful feline spay/neuter surgeries.

  5. Is Dr Orlin skilled in pediatric spay-neuter?
    YES, Dr Orlin is skilled in pediatric spay-neuter. She can perform surgery on cats if the cat weighs a minimum of 2 lbs (about 8 weeks).

  6. What should I do prior to bringing my cat for surgery?
    Please go to pre-op instructions.

  7. Does my cat have to be in a carrier?
    Yes, Absolutely! It is the policy of Project CatSnip that every cat arrive in a separate cat carrier. Many cats get spooked from riding in cars or upon seeing other cats. For our clients protection, and the safety of cats we require each and every cat to arrive and leave in a separate carrier or trap.

  8. Can I bring in cats that I am feeding outdoors that are wild?
    Yes, Project CatSnip encourages responsible care for these cats. If not, they will just continue to multiply and present many hardships to their offspring. We provide a limited number of traps and instructions for use. If traps are used, no reservation is required. Just call CatSnip and tell us of your impending arrival. Any trapped feral cat must be received before 7:30 a.m.

  9. Can I bring in more than one cat?
    Yes, the more the better.

  10. What type of payment do you require?
    CASH! Project CatSnip is a nonprofit business. In order to keep our costs down, we require CASH payment when the cat is presented for surgery at 7:30 a.m.

  11. Will you accept certificates?
    Project CatSnip offers spay/neuter prices so low that they are equal to the price of certificates offered my many organizations. Project CatSnip does not accept certificates. Sometimes certificate issuers will send payment directly to clients with proper verification. Please check with the issuer of the certificate.

  12. How long will the surgery take? When can I pick-up my pet?
    Project CatSnip starts surgery early in order to provide ample time for recovery under the watchful eye of our surgery team. Animals will be discharged promptly at the time given at admittance under normal circumstances. It is vitally important that owners be there on time to claim their pet at pick-up. Pick-up times will depend on the size of the clinic. The exact time will be given by the tech at the morning breifing. A late fee of $10 will be assessed for every half-hour late, starting 1/2 hour past stated pick-up time..

  13. What if my female cat is in heat or is pregnant?
    The spay operation can still be performed. There is a slight additional charge do to a longer surgery and the need to administer additional medications.
