"The Feral cat problem is the main reason for cat overpopulation" Strategies for eliminating unowned, free-roaming, feral cats and their offspring, (who can make up a large share of euthanized cats in shelters) must extend beyond the complaint-driven, trap and kill techniques currently employed by most Atlanta animal control departments to controlling the cat population. A large majority of these feral cats, once impounded, are not adoptable. The answer for feral cats lies in community-based Trap-Vaccinate-Alter-Release programs that reduce the threat of zoonotic disease, reduces future population and allow these cats to live out their lives as part of nature.
